I quit writing reviews because all films are are giant therapy sessions showing characters going through emotional transformations.

Soccer Mom sensibilities and outlook in spite of being tranformed into a mafia donnessa. And in the end the Mafia Mamma just turns out to be another triumphant woman in the face of male adversity, as opposed to a woman who learns the ins and outs of organized crime while still keeping her. There's no humorous nor artistic flare here. The film this should have been should have been a humorous look at the Godfather movies, but instead we get a kind of self-styled yawner that plays it safe with corporate film making marketing direction and directives. It's pretty tepid stuff directed by a person who simply doesn't know the genre, much less how to find laughter in any material. As well as a few other gangster parodies from the 50s and before, but we're not shown nor given that here. Michael Keaton did it with 'Johnny Dangerously', and Jack Lemon and with his two famous co-stars did it in 'Some Like it Hot'.

We weren't shown a humorous look at organized from, again largely because it's a difficult subject to parody. We didn't see the stereotypical gangsters from any of the Godfather movies, Some Like it Hot, nor any of the other films that focus on mafia activity. Part of the reason this film fails is that the cast was exceptionally small, there wasn't much of a plot, the audience wasn't let in on mafia cliches for humorous effect i.e. People who organize themselves to break the law and make money from breaking said law, and who are willing to kill to continued to do so, is hard material for a comedy to work with.

I think part of the reason is that organized crime is no laughing matter. There's one or two other gags in the film that made me laugh, but for a film that billed or promoted itself as a humorous 'what if a middle aged American woman took control of a mafia family' kind of film, it really falls flat. Is probably the only funny line in the movie.
